Here is a fluff free review of Gasthaus Wachtberg, Attersee, Austria:
Notable Mentions: Kartoffelpuffer mit Räucherlachs/ Potatopuff with Smoked Salmon or Nougatknödel/ Nougatball
Overall Flavours: Excellent
Staff Efficiency: Good
Ambiance: Excellent – situated at the top of a mountain, the restaurant offers an extraordinary view of Attersee
Pricing: Cheap (Euro 0 – Euro 25)
Tips: The waitstaff understand and speak English
Additional Information: Whilst wandering around Attersee, my mother and I stumbled upon a jewelry store owned by a local lady that spoke fluent English – after conversing for a while, we decided to ask where she would recommend us to eat; little did we know we were about to have a phenomenal meal! The store owner made a reservation for us after insisting on doing so and one rainy ride later, we made it to the top of the mountain. As we were dining by a fishing village, we decided to eat local produce aka fish – our starter was basically smoked fish pate (so yum) and our mains were two variations of salmon trout. The (main) recommended dish, kartoffelpuffer mit räucherlachs, consisted of the crispiest yet fluffiest potato-puffs I’ve ever devoured and that little twig of rosemary made such a difference in flavour whereas the freshly rolled nougat balls were an experience in on itself, literally oozing the perfect amount of hazelnut into each bite. Albeit a slight distance from Salzburg, around half an hour or more, this would definitely be another must-visit!
